The history of people to people
Does anyone know about the first p2p delegation? That would be cool to have on the main site-a page about the first delegation, and their experieces.

I think they went to Russia. At my very first meeting, back in 2003, they gave us a paper that was "Ashley's Story" (supposedly someone that went on the first trip).

I wouldn't doubt it because that was when the us and russia were starting to have some troubles and they probably wanted to have as many peacemaking organizations as possible.

The first Ambassador trip was to Russia, but I believe the first People to People trip ever was to Germany in 1962. 1,200 college students were sent there after World War Two to create better relations between the German and American youth.

Does P2P have a trip to Russia? If so, I'd love to go. Russia has always been an interesting country in my opinion.

They had a trip to Russia when it was the Soviet Union. People to People International has a trip for adults to Russia, but not students.

People to People has an alumni trip that's called Belgium to St. Petersburg or something like that. Like, eastern Europe/Russia trip I guess.

There's a trip that goes to St. Petersburg (the Imperial/Grand Capitals trip). It also goes throughout Eastern Europe. It was alumni-only last summer, but now its open to non-alumni as well.

I really want to go to Russia, because I take Russian in school. I really wish p2p had trip that went all around Russia, it would be such a great opportunity for me to practice my Russian and experience the culture first hand!

I went to the Soviet Union in 1989 with People to People. We went to Leningrad (St. Petersburg) and Moscow. It was part of our eastern Europe trip that covered England, Denmark, Finland, Sweden and the Soviet Union. It was a life altering experience of which I reminisce often.
I now work for US Customs and Border Protection and see many People to People people coming home from their journey thru JFK airport. It's pretty cool to see kids in the same position that I was in ( with much cooler shirts, I just got a lousy name tag) coming home from abroad.
