How long are you going to Peru for?

They offered Peru as an Alumni trip last year. I would love to go to Machu Picchu. It is a dream of mine to go there.

Only 10 days (or 11 if you want to get technical). Seems rather short, but it's reasonable considering we're staying in one country. It's actually more of a hiking trip, as we'll only be touring the cities for three days. The rest will be trecking through rainforests, taking river boats, and hiking to Machu Pichu. Trying to get into shape now. -_-

Do you know if you are doing the 4 day hike or taking the train part way?

I know, I am trying to get in shape too since my trip is mostly hiking!

I heard nothing about a train ride, though perhaps things will change. I know we're taking many river boats. Which trip did you say you were going on?

Gateway to Discovery and Treasure, I think...

All I know about Machu Pichu from watching Samatha Brown is you can take a 4 day hike up there or they have a train so you can get there in 1 day. Something like that, then again I could be wrong.

Oh I love her. >.< Saw that epsiode as well. But I think we're driving half way up there, then hiking the rest. It should definately be....interesting. I sincerely hope I don't pass out from the altitude.

Oh yeah that's right, but look on the bright side, it is almost worth the altitude sickness for the view!

Now that you mentioned it, I think you can take a bus, I think it was mentioned in that episode. I love her too, and Anthony Bourdain, he is so funny.

I've been to Machu Picchu on a trip on my own, not with P2P.  I didn't hike the Inca Trail, but took the train into the Urubamba Valley.  You do take a bus up the mountain most of the way, and then get out and walk the rest to the top.  It is fantastically amazing.  I walked from M.P. to the Sun Gate, where you will enter if you hike the trail, and the view from there is spectacular.

Anyone who gets the chance to go - I would highly recommend it.  Peru is a beautiful country and the people are wonderful.   (And eat the guinea pig - it's not too bad.  Tastes like chicken!)

Oh absolutely. I'm going to get annoyed if we don't get cuy. It's the national dish, after all.

And I origianlly thought we were riding horses some of the way, but the itinerary LIED. That would've been neat. Ah well, I ride twice a week anyway. >.>;

Still the view from Machu Picchu is going to be amazing whether you ride horses or not.
